Job Description                                                                                                                              

Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Services, the individual will assist with the promotion, organization and operation of the YOUth Create After School Programs operated by HARRRP for the 2017/2018 school year. The youth worker will encourage the personal, educational and social development of young people ages 10 through 14. Our ideal worker will respond to the needs and interests of young people within vulnerable populations and work in a range of environments.   Availability must be Monday to Friday, 2:30-6pm.

 

Main Duties                                                                                                                         

Youth Workers’ roles vary greatly, but typical activities involve:

  • Safe supervision of youth enrolled in the program
  • Leading and mentoring youth while executing a positive behaviour
  • Delivering programs related to areas such as healthily living, fitness, drugs, relationships and bullying
  • Running arts-based activities, community/environmental projects, residential activities, outdoor education and sporting activities
  • Befriending and supporting individuals in various settings
  • Mentoring and supporting individuals to encourage social inclusion
  • Undertaking administrative tasks, verifying information and responding to queries
  • Carry out the instructions as given by Youth Program Directors or their designate
  • Working with fellow staff, parents, and community groups
  • Any related duties as assigned by the Director of Youth Programming

 

Qualifications                                                                                                                                 

  • Grade 12 literacy

**Preference will be given to those who have completed or are completing post-secondary education in a related field **

  • Experience working with inner-city youth ages 10-16
  • Good oral and communication skills
  • Good understanding of the Hamilton Community
  • Police Check required
  • Access to a vehicle will be beneficial but not required
  • CPR/First Aid Certification, Food Handler Certification and High Five training provided
